Tech Innovation Lab

Creating spaces where innovators can test, build, and launch their ideas.

About the lab

Tū Ātea’s Tech Innovation Lab is a Māori-led innovation environment focused on building and testing real-world communications infrastructure and solutions.

Based in Auckland, the lab showcases and develops critical “hard tech” — including portable cell towers such as Tūī, Kāhu, Weka, and Miromiro — designed to deliver connectivity in remote, underserved, and high-demand environments.

The lab is a working innovation platform where ideas are developed, tested, and scaled into practical solutions.

What we do

Incubation & Capability Building
Through partnerships — including our incubator programme with Auckland Council — we support Māori-led invention, entrepreneurship, and scalable ventures.

Testing & Commercialisation Pathways
We provide access to technical expertise, testing environments, and pathways to take solutions from concept to market.

Connected Ecosystem
We work across a network of partners, industry leaders, and global connections to accelerate learning, collaboration, and opportunity.
