Making Pathways Visible
The Impact team from Tū Ātea recently connected with the next generation of Māori engineers at AUT - Auckland University of Technology, and spent time with tauira to share experiences, insights, and the opportunities ahead.
For many tauira, the pathway into engineering can feel isolating. Without many visible role models or peers who share their experiences, it’s easy to feel like you’re navigating it alone. Taking the time to connect, share stories, and have open conversations helps create a sense of belonging and community. It shows tauira that others are walking similar journeys.
Through this kaupapa, we are working to open doors in practical ways. Scholarships can ease financial pressure. Internships offer hands-on experience, and a chance to build confidence. Longer term opportunities with Tū Ātea create a clear pathway into meaningful careers. Each step is about supporting tauira to move forward with purpose.
When tauira can connect with people who share their background and values, it strengthens their belief that they belong there too. That sense of visibility is powerful.
Because when tauira can see it, they can be it.
